Doom Eternal has a robust campaign that offers an experience tailored to suit the player. The difficulty in which the player is immersed is only the beginning. The number of collectibles and secrets to be found offers hours of extra gameplay on top of the heart-pounding combat and boss encounters. Yet there is another side of Doom that has had little celebration so far. The multiplayer Battlemode offers an arena experience consisting of one slayer and two demons controlled by the players.

The object is for either the slayer or the demons to eliminate the other faction to win the round. 3 rounds won, and the game ends. Whether the player prefers to play as slayer of demon, there are a few tips that are helpful to know before jumping into the game mode.

10 Demons: Synergize Your Team Composition

There are 5 different demons to select in Battlemode, each with weapons and abilities to customize. The basic kits offer bruiser, crowd control, damage focused, and mage focused options. Be sure to read into each demon and pick a team that will feed off each others abilities.

For example, the Archvale and Mancubus both offer fire and will overload the slayer if they cannot keep off the ground. Similarly, having a Revenant rain down rockets while a Marauder pursues on foot is a deadly combination.

9 Slayer: Divide and Conquer

The Slayer has an arsenal at their disposal designed to sustain their aggression against the  enemy demons. Being able to focus on one at a time is a great way to win the round. Identifying what abilities each has is incredibly helpful. It is a good idea to read up on them before going in full tilt.

If there is one walking demon, try to get them near lesser demons to keep gathering resources while also being able to damage the enemy team. Keep trying to separate the two so that their abilities cannot be used to full effect. Try to keep one moving away from the other if possible.

8 Demons: Summon Help

Summoning demons can be a double-edged sword. It can either help as a distraction to the slayer, or the summons can become coal for the fire. Being able to summon a few demons at once to overwhelm the slayer seems to be a good tactic.

This is especially true if both teammates can use their abilities to maximize damage output while the slayer is scrambling do deal with the extra demons. Be sure to save summons for when they can be used in a team. Spawning one at a time usually results in the slayer gaining extra resources.

7 Slayer: Keep Moving

The success of a round as the Slayer depends on whether or not the player gets trapped. As long as the Slayer is in motion, he can’t be locked down for massive amounts of damage. Run, jump, dash, and use the elevators to keep poking down the demons.

Getting in close helps with finishing off the enemy, but it takes a bit of practice to sustain a full-frontal assault, especially if the enemy team is summoning other demons left and right. There are also plenty of beams for the Slayer to swing from, so don’t forget to look up.

6 Demons: Flank

A simple tactic that is incredibly effective is used properly. Have one tanky demon be the base of fire. A Mancubus is a great option to sustain damage and keep up the fight. While one teammate is busy getting all the attention, have another move off to the side in order to start damaging the slayer who is woefully unaware of what is about to happen.

This may be hard to do against a player that moves around and doesn’t hone in on one demon at a time. It is best to get the slayer interested in one teammate and sneak around to start damaging from the side.

5 Slayer: Farm Resources

As the Slayer, it is important to keep the arsenal full. The loop of health, ammo, armor carries over from the campaign in a big way to Battlemode. It is even more important to keep farming so that the enemy team doesn’t get a health advantage.

Running out of ammo is a death sentence, but luckily there are plenty of lesser demons to be harvested, all while still trying to poke down the enemy players. The ice bomb into flamethrower and glory kills strategy is a quick get-out-of-jail-free card that can work when the Slayer is boxed in.

4 Demons: Watch The Portals

On each multiplayer map, there are two portals that will transport the slayer from one side to the other. This functions exactly like a slayer gate portal and allows the slayer to get away from danger. Watch these portals closely, especially when the slayer is low on health.

It is reactionary for a slayer to run when close to death, and the portal feels like an escape. That is, until there is a pain elemental waiting on the other side with a band of demons and a gleam in his eye. Control the map, and the demons will win.

3 Slayer: Kill Demon Summons

The enemy team is able to conjure up lesser demons to help in their effort of eliminating the Slayer. These can become a problem if they gather in force and swarm the player. Be sure to keep killing them as they are summoned.

This will work as long as you keep moving and using the summons to farm for resources. When the enemy teams’ summons are on cooldown, that is the time to strike with extreme prejudice.

2 Demons: Hide When Teammate Is Down

It is inevitable that the slayer will get one over on the demons. That is, after all, the point of the game. So, when this happens, it is best to run away and hide. Definitely keep moving, stay away from any hordes of friendly lesser demons, and be sure to keep on the opposite side of the map if at all possible.

If the slayer hasn’t been keeping an eye on both teammates, then all the better. But usually, the player will have to get creative with their escape. At any rate, do not confront the slayer head-on, regardless of their health, because that is just asking to be purged.

1 Slayer: Push The Advantage

When one enemy demon is down, be sure to take advantage of the situation. It is paramount that the Slayer eliminates both in a short span of time to avoid the dreaded respawn. It is important to keep an eye on both enemies, especially when closing in for the kill on one.

There is plenty of space for the demons to move on the maps, so be sure to get there quickly when it is one on one combat. Keep in mind that there can still be summons and the demons are capable of putting out serious damage, but the Slayer should win out if they fight smart and be aggressive.
