When Doom Eternal unleashed itself upon the public on March 20th of this year, it brought with it all the glorious demon-slaying action for which the franchise is known. By all accounts, the game delivered on its promise of an even faster and more brutal Doom experience.
Like any good fandom, devotees have expressed their adoration for the Doom Slayer’s adventure through memes, the ten funniest of which are listed below. While no one would joke about a real invasion of Earth by beasts from hell, it is okay to crack wise when it is happening in a video game and the Doom Slayer is there to save the innocent.
10 Escalation Is The Name Of The Game
While this line was reserved for a joke in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy where a street fight between news teams turns into a brutal brawl complete with deadly weapons and fire, it is a compliment when talking about Doom.
Id Software’s games waste no time in boring the player or slowly ramping things up. Players immediately dive into the action and start ripping and tearing within three minutes of the game starting up. Even with all this considered, seeing the BFG-10000 as a giant railgun mounted on a space base was still jaw-dropping. Players expect large-scale battles and levels, but even this was more than most expected when it was first shown off in a trailer.
9 Our Wallets Are Scared, But Our Hearts Are Happy
The same meme can be used for any upcoming title. The wallet pleads with gamers to be financially responsible, but fans’ desires overcome any rational thought. Like the UAC employee terrified as the Doom Slayer drags him by necklace holding the keycard, our wallets are also tearing up as we remove its cash or credit card to put down a pre-order.
8 Know Your Audience
Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons struck up a surprising kinship due to their shared release date and the dire circumstances throughout the world when they came out.
While a certain audience is expected for each title, one would be surprised to see the demographics of those who adore the bloody first-person shooter and the cutesy life simulator. Never assume to know someone’s tastes just because of how they look. Besides, at the end of the day, both games are fantastic and many gamers love both franchises.
7 Platforming
This meme’s hopes were dashed upon Doom Eternal’s release. If anything, the sequel contains even more platforming and ledge-climbing than its predecessor. Battles constantly force the player to avoid fire and lock-on by dashing. Additionally, lava and other hazards populate the arenas, making the player think about where they are going. Fortunately, a couple of Runes make aerial navigation easier, such as the ability to slow down time while in mid-air or simply being able to better control the Doom Slayer while jumping.

The Doom Slayer is probably still grieving over the death of his beloved rabbit, Daisy. His lust for revenge is what keeps him going. While it is a sorrowful tale, he most likely wouldn’t want to live in a world without grudges, seeing as how he now has an infinite amount of demons to slay.
It is surprising how motivating negative emotions are for some people. While it may not be healthy for one’s mental state, the anger coursing through the protagonist’s veins no doubt helps him win battle after battle. He plans to outlive his enemies, so he’ll stick around until that’s done.
5 Speedrunners Are Not Concerned
Watching a speedrun is like seeing someone break reality. The tricks and exploits they find to beat a game as fast as possible are simply astonishing. While the headline in the meme inflates the actual playtime a little bit — one play through of Doom Eternal is between ten and thirteen hours — it is still fairly beefy for a linear FPS. Speedrunner will undoubtedly find ways to beat the game in a fraction of that time, however. Their tricks are so complex and bizarre, seeing them happen in front of our eyes still leaves us scratching our heads.
4 Don’t Stand A Chance
Even if one prefers The Last of Us Part II or Cyberpunk 2077 over Doom Eternal, the meme is still an accurate representation of the properties. The two games are more precise, and the gameplay revolves around careful planning, decision-making, and resource management. Doom Eternal, on the other hand, rolls in like a tank, obliterating everything in its path. While resource management is also a part of the equation, it is done while avoiding and slashing hordes of demons. Even recouping lost resources has the player ripping enemies to shreds.
3 Finally, A Fair Fight
Despite its difficulty, Doom Eternal ultimately wants the player to feel powerful. After mastering the mechanics, perfectly executing the bullet ballet while slaughtering opponents is a blissful dance of death. For the most expert players, it does not matter how many demons are on-screen; they will always prevail. One should never get too comfortable, however. We’re sure id Software is already thinking of new ways to test players’ mettle in either DLC, a sequel, or the master levels one can do after beating the campaign.

While Frank Reynolds from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the last person one should take advice from, in this case he was right. The Khan Maykr exploits humans and other species for energy and needs to be taken care of. Even those who don’t know the television show can still appreciate the imagery of the Doom Slayer’s face pasted on top of an old man’s body holding two pistols.

People who think true love does not exist have never seen this picture. If one is currently on the dating scene and looking for love, find someone who looks at you the same way the Doom Slayer looks at this unbelievable firearm. Only a few will ever be so lucky to happen upon such a romance. They say love will save the world; those who said that probably didn’t expect it to be a love between a Doom Slayer and his guns.
