Greatness Awaits a bit longer, as the next State of Play this week won’t have any big PS5 announcements.
This Thursday at 1:00pm Pacific, Sony will unleash a bunch of information on upcoming PS4 and PSVR games during a 40+ minute show. There will also be a few quick updates on third party and indie games that were shown during the PS5 Future of Gaming showcase. Don’t get your hopes up though, as Sony states that there will be “no big PS5 announcements” or updates on PlayStation Studios games on the PlayStation Blog.
Sony’s also making sure that expectations are in check; there won’t be any hardware updates, dates, or pre-order information during the show. The price is probably out of the question too. Unlike Nintendo’s recent Nintendo Direct Mini, we know exactly what we’re getting into.
“We’ve got a great lineup in store featuring plenty of new gameplay footage and other game updates,” said Sid Shuman, the Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Content Communications, “Can’t wait to hear what you think!”
One game we could hear an update on could be Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Lab. While it’s in no way a confirmation the game will show up, the developer’s Twitter account has been liking posts that speculate Kena will be part of the State of Play. Take a look at the one below and this tweet.
Kena could definitely show up as it’s due out for 2020 and could line up as a launch title for the PS5.
There’s also the Batman-sized elephant in the room with WB Games Montreal’s title in the Arkham universe. It’s speculated Gotham Knights and seems to be inspired by the Court of Owls comic run. We’ll likely hear more during the DC Fandome event on August 22 but we could get a tease of what’s to come with this State of Play. Fingers crossed!
With the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X due out in just a few months’ time, it’s quite preposterous that neither a release date nor a price has been given for either console yet. Fans who want to play the latest and greatest might want to start saving now, despite the perplexing lack of information. When will this game of cat and mouse end?
