Yes, Beyond Good And Evil 2 still exists. But we’ll likely be waiting at least another year before we see more of it.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Beyond Good And Evil 2. Outside of that partnership with HitRecord, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s controversial crowd-sourcing-for-content site, Ubisoft hasn’t really shown us much of Beyond Good And Evil 2, although the developers promise the game is still in very active development.
Initially announced at E3 2017, the cinematic and gameplay trailers that have been revealed since then made it seem like a 2020 release would be a sure thing. Then Ubisoft Forward came and went without even mentioning Beyond Good And Evil 2, much to the disappointment of its many fans.
Some might have even had a very valid concern that the game might’ve been canceled. Well, we have good news: Beyond Good And Evil 2 is not dead. It’s just going to take a bit longer than we thought.
“We are currently concentrating on core development and production milestones,” writes the Beyond Good And Evil team in an update posted to the game’s official website. “So rest assured that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is well underway.”
But don’t get your hopes up.
“We know a lot of you are clamoring to see gameplay footage, to learn more details about the gameplay experience currently under development, and (of course) to get your hands on the game. We are committed to providing our Space Monkeys with these opportunities when the time is right, but we’re just not there yet and once we are, you’ll be the first to know.”
Ubisoft says that gameplay footage and presence at public events will be “extremely limited for the time being,” although that is likely more due to COVID-19 than any lack of desire to advertise their game.
Personally? Ubisoft is likely retooling Beyond Good And Evil 2 for a next-gen console release and that’s causing some internal delays. We know that they’ve got enough of a game done that scrapping it all now would be a huge waste. We’re just going to have to be patient for Ubisoft to decide when the time is right.
