In keeping with current trends in PC gaming, Djinni & Thaco: Trial By Spire is going to release a demo before the game’s arrival later in July. This means that potential customers of Trial By Spire’s quirky brand of fantasy humor will have a chance to get their hands dirty first before throwing down any money.

For those unaware, Djinni & Thaco: Trial By Spire is an upcoming tower defense game where you play as an all-powerful Djinni. You loom over the battlefield wielding awesome magical powers and summoning terrifying defensive structures in order to beat back the oncoming hordes of enemies.

It’s all very Orcs Must Die!, but instead of killing orcs and goblins, you’ll be murdering knights and squires. Maybe a few mages here and there.

Besides summoning defensive towers to keep approaching armies at bay, you’ll also have an arsenal of spells at your command. Each spell is cast using a specific gesture, so you’ll really get into the spirit of being a magical siege weapon.

Developer and indie team Dark Catt Studios apparently had a rough time of development following the coronavirus outbreak in the United States but has since managed to get their team of 30+ people working from home and they’re on track to release Trial By Spire next month.

“Dealing with production during shelter in place and now this political unrest has been an immense challenge as a sizable indie studio with a modest budget,” said Dark Catt founder and CEO John Robb. It’s given a lot of our team something to hyper-focus on. We really hope we can help a few people escape today’s current banalities and laugh just a little in these times of darkness and uncertainty. We are extremely fortunate to still be in production when a lot of other studios are laying off."

Djinni & Thaco: Trial By Spire’s demo will arrive on June 22. It’ll contain two levels, with the final product having roughly 30 hours of gameplay. The game will be sold for $34.99 on Steam, Viveport, and Oculus Store, and will work on most VR headsets.
