Gamers who play Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin for the first time might see this as a “typical” tactical RPG. However, fans of both Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2, know the game offers not just vast narrative options but also character customization features. Aside from skills, characters also possess Talents that give them innate advantages inside and outside combat.
However, tactical RPG gamers will most likely want Talents with extremely huge benefits. After all, it’s “go big or go home,” right? Thankfully, Original Sin 2shows players there’s much more to the game than being OP. In fact, players might be missing out on awesome Talents that can spice up their Original Sin 2 experience. Just what are these Talents, and what can they do to a party?
These changes can range from base Attributes, magic-like Skills, and even Talents that give players preset options about their stats. With these customizable options in mind, it’s easy to see why newcomers may feel overwhelmed with their character progression options. However, newcomers to the game might want to focus on acquiring certain Talents to gain an early advantage for their characters.
15 Comeback Kid
Sometimes, a second chance is what a character needs to turn the tide in combat. Thanks to Comeback Kid, a character can survive a fatal blow and get back up with 20-percent Health. This Talent can easily allow heavy hitters such as tank builds or even fragile stealthy Rogues to outlast opponents in tricky situations.
However, players do need to remember that Comeback Kid only works once per character’s lifetime. This means a character needs to die and get resurrected in combat before Comeback Kid kicks in again. Of course, players with more than enough Resurrect Scrolls can spam Comeback Kid against more difficult bosses.
14 Duck Duck Goose
When any character passes by melee range of any enemy, they become open for an Opportunity Attack. This is a free physical attack that an opponent can do to damage a character passing their field of vision. When facing melee-heavy tanks and rogues in enclosed spaces, Opportunity Attacks can become extremely fatal.
Thankfully, Duck Duck Goose gets players away from that. Unlocked when a character has Huntsman 1, Duck Duck Goose will help that character escape Opportunity Attacks. When used by a rogue, this essentially lets them chase their foe without fear of retaliation in the process. Likewise, a spellcaster or healer can get out of a sticky situation without the risk of dying early due to Opportunity Attacks.
13 Glass Cannon
In most combat situations, characters can either use up all their AP to do actions or skip their turn to carry over excess AP in the next round. This choice becomes crucial, as skipping a turn now can give the enemy more than enough time to reposition or dish out deadly attacks. With Glass Cannon, this “choice” becomes moot. After all, Glass Cannon gives a character their Maximum AP count every turn, allowing them to do more things.
Unfortunately, Glass Cannon does have a severe caveat. When equipped, Glass Cannon will disable protections of Physical and Magic Armour against statuses. This makes characters more prone to Charmed and other abilities that Armour can ordinarily resist. Moreover, characters who already have the Lone Wolf Talent can’t equip Glass Cannon.
12 Living Armour
Aside from Health, characters can rely on both Physical and Magical Armour to protect them from various kinds of attacks. Thanks to Living Armour, players have a constant way of replenishing their defenses against magical damage.
Essentially, Living Armour bestows healing to Magical Armour whenever its equipped character receives healing. When equipped, Living Armor gives 35-percent of all healing done to its equipped character to its Magical Armour. Considering how deadly certain magical Skills can become when taken head-on, Living Armour is a great asset for both Spellcasters and characters that often need to tank magical damage.
11 Guerilla
Thanks to the instant critical attacks of backstab attacks, stealth builds like Rogues and Shadowblades instantly become a danger to any enemy force. When paired with the right Scoundrel Skill, these characters can dish out huge damage numbers against multiple enemies or powerful bosses. With Guerilla, this damage output can reach exponential levels.
At its core, Guerilla gives a 40-percent boost to attacks while sneaking. Moreover, sneaking in combat now costs 3AP instead of the usual 4AP cost. This gives stealthy characters more room to maneuver and plan their attacks without detection.
10 All Skilled Up
Abilities help characters become more flexible inside and outside combat. As such, Newbies should ideally invest in Abilities they want early on. Thanks to this Talent, they get one Combat and one Civil Ability Point to spend immediately.
Players who want to use more Skills should invest in Hydrosophist (for recovery), Summoning (for summons), and Warfare (for overall damage). Meanwhile, more physical players should invest in Retribution (to reflect damage) and their weapon-type Ability.
On the other hand, in terms of Civil Skills, they should invest in Persuasion (to influence more characters), Loremaster (for identification), Telekinesis (for moving things), Sneaking (for hiding), and Thievery (for pickpocketing).
9 Elemental Ranger
Players will most likely want at least one ranged character in their party, especially one that uses bows. Thanks to Elemental Ranger, their arrows will deal additional damage to does that change depending on the surface their enemies are standing on. This Talent will be extremely useful for players who want to take advantage of multiple surfaces around their enemies or that their other party members can create, such as blood.
However, this advanced skill does require Huntsman 2 prior to activation. This caveat means Elemental Ranger is a Talent that’s almost always best slotted to Wayfarers and Rangers.
8 Executioner
Players will likely want to eliminate enemies in a battle as fast as possible. As such, when facing smaller parties, it’s not improbable for players to max out AP usage on an all-out offensive. With Executioner, a character with this Talent gets a +2 AP bonus when they land the killing blow to an opponent.
Executioner most likely fits with any party’s primary damage dealer. Moreover, the AP bonus works well to reposition themselves to face the next opponent, or they may even begin pummeling down enemies that are still surrounding them.
7 Far Out Man
Characters relying on ranged abilities can benefit greatly from this Talent, as it increases the range of scrolls and spells by two meters. However, this Talent isn’t just helpful for offensive spellcasters. More fragile spellcasters with support spells and summons can finally summon minions & use beneficial spells without putting themselves in harm’s way.
For parties that rely on a single spellcaster, Far Out Man enables spellcasters to get in and out of battle quickly. Moreover, it extends the distance enemies have to travel in order to attack them.
6 Hothead
Long-distance fighters benefit from this Talent as this gives bonuses to accuracy and critical hits when in full health. Moreover, high-armored combatants such as Fighters and Knights are deadlier in combat given they receive enough restoration throughout the battle.
Newbies can maximize this Talent for melee fighters by delaying their turn when they get damaged, giving other party members time to heal them. Alternatively, other party members can focus on knocking down or stunning opponents, leaving them wide open for fighters to attack– ranged or otherwise.
5 Mnemonic
Thanks to Skills, players can customize their characters to use magical, ranged, and melee abilities in combat. However, characters first need to have the appropriate Memory slots to equip all the Skills they want. Newbies who want to skip the hassle of leveling for Memory can instead use Mnemonic.
With this Talent, players immediately get three more points in Memory. In turn, this immediately increases the number of Skills they can equip on the get-go. This Talent becomes extremely helpful for players who want to make a flexible character for their first playthrough, or for those who want to test the fluidity of Original Sin 2’s combat system.
4 Morning Person
Melee fighters, especially Tanks, benefit greatly from Morning Person. Whereas usual resurrection revives characters with a few HP, Morning Person puts them at maximum health. As such, melee combatants who fall in combat can literally rise “with a vengeance.”
Moreover, weaker support allies can get a great deal of support from Morning Person, as this immediately helps them get back to battle after being revived without players having to worry about getting them out of the battlefield. Newbies who want to be extra safe can give this talent to almost all their party members, though they should reserve it f0r their designated tanks & damage sponges.
3 Opportunist
Another Talent fit for almost anyone is the Opportunist, as it grants characters the ability to make Attacks of Opportunity. As players know, these attacks only get triggered when enemies try to move past a character with the Opportunist Talent. Most melee characters will benefit from this Talent, as their attacks are innately strong. Moreover, melee combatants can use this Talent to ensure enemies don’t get to escape them, either.
However, this weighs down the party’s overall defenses, especially when these same characters attack enemies on the way to attack support characters on the rear.
2 The Pawn
In combat, movement, attacks, and abilities all cost AP, so resource management is an important consideration in the game. Thanks to The Pawn, characters get +1 AP at the start of the turn for movement. Remember– characters can only use this free AP for movement, not attacks.
As such, players who want to pull off certain strategies with characters can take full advantage of this Talent. The Pawn can help more mobile characters such as Rogues and Rangers get in position. This helps other melee characters chase opponents, and even spellcasters get out of sticky situations.
1 What A Rush
Unexpected story battles can leave parties in a pinch, especially when opponents start dishing out deadly AOEs against characters. Unfortunately, characters might not have enough AP to get out of enemy range, heal themselves, and start a counterattack. With this Talent, players might have a fighting chance in sticky situations.
Thanks to this Talent, players get a +1 AP replenish rate if that character drops to 50-percent health. Ideally, this Talent works best with melee characters. Anyone under 50-percent HP can use that additional AP boost to get out of enemy reach and begin healing themselves.
