Bethesda and Arkane Studio’s well-known series, Dishonored, has had multiple DLC’s and continuing games thus far full of sword fighting and masquerades. Each game, things are upgraded and enhanced via gameplay and UI and one of those things happens to be the bonecharms.
Remember when bonecharms used to have no penalties? We do too. Today we will be looking at some of Dishonored 2’s best and worst corrupted bonecharms based on their advantages and penalties!
10 BEST: Armored Bones
Equipping the bonecharm Armored Bones allows you to take a good amount less of damage you take at the cost of your movement speed. Sure, most gamers dislike tedious slow walking, or running that doesn’t seem to be taking you anywhere, but in exchange for less damage? It just might be worth it.
Everyone’s gangster ’til you realize you haven’t been watching your health and accidentally triggered an alarm and are cornered by multiple husky men.
9 WORST: Zephyr
The exact opposite of Armored Bones, Zephyr increases your movement speed at the cost of how much damage can be inflicted upon you. Being fast does have it’s perks when you’re being chased down by enemies, rats, dogs and the like. But it isn’t a total necessity over living and breathing.
Your movement speed surely would not be Sonic fast and it wouldn’t be insanely slow without the special increase either. It’s a slight perk compared to surviving a fight unless you’re the master stealth player that cares not for High Chaos… In that case, continue on kind sir!
8 BEST: Lightweight
Despite previous mentions about how important health is, regeneration isn’t that important either when comparing it to other things! The Lightweight bonecharm makes it so that fall damage is reduced at the cost of how much your health regenerates.
Though your health regeneration would be halved, you can still heal yourself completely. One simply needs to have a full supply of health tonics and/or eat other people’s food! Playing the Dishonored franchise, we often find ourselves high up with no safe way to get down and no mana to Blink down. We may also find ourselves attempting to Blink or Reach high up and it might not be so… Accurate. If we could just be invincible…
7 WORST: Witch’s Skin
Mmm, but to be a witch whose magical aura absorbs pain before your direct flesh does. Witch’s Skin takes away mana in replace of health when you take damage at the cost of no mana regeneration.
Having your mana bar soak up damage may act as a shield and seem beneficial at first but we’d all soon regret it when we realize we have no mana to use any of our Void abilities with! Because let’s face it, we all use the heck out of them. Damage reducing our mana bar along with no mana regeneration? That sounds less like a win-win and more like a loss-loss.
6 BEST: Void Winds
Void Wind makes your ability Windblast all the more powerful at the cost of the ability consuming more mana than usual. Fus. Ro. Dah. Need we say any more on the subject? The penalty could be losing all our ammo for all we could care, we can blast anything and anyone out of our way!
The penalty isn’t too bad when you think about it. Yes, it uses more mana, but mana regenerates and you can consume things to make that empty bar all better again.
5 WORST: Splintering Bolts
This particular corrupted bonecharm allows your crossbow bolts to do increased damage with a penalty of the bolts breaking on impact every time. Though we get plenty of gadgets in the Dishonored games, most of us don’t utilize every single one. If we do, we sure as heck don’t wanna be wastin’ the devices’ ammo!
Though it may be significant for the bolts to do more damage along with the benefit of convincing people to use it all the more, you can still perform headshots regardless of this special increase and get awesome kills without losing ammo you may have a hard time looting more of.
4 BEST: Vengeance Trade
Anyone who gets High Chaos, on purpose or on accident, would enjoy some good adrenaline to get things really goin’. Vengeance Trade makes your adrenaline rack up faster at the cost of a reduction to how long your Bloodthirst lasts.
It may be true that a longer-lasting Bloodthirst would be insanely cool and you could kill many enemies in a short period of time but you may also find yourself stuck and in need of some quick adrenaline gains to take down a couple! Or severely injure them at the very least.
3 WORST: Power Slash
Hack n’ slash anyone? This bonecharm grants your sword increased damage at the cost of how fast you can swing and slash the darn thing. One thing many people enjoy about the Dishonored franchise’s combat is its fast swinging and swift stealing. Who’s gonna give up some of that?
If we tie in some mines, bullets, and Void powers with our sword it will begin to look like increased sword damage isn’t that super in exchange for swift swinging and more action.
2 BEST: Stolen Breath
Your ability to Far Reach and teleport yourself away can also be used on enemies to pull them towards you, ripe for picking! Stolen Breath makes it so that this ability is quiet and able to perform in stealth. With the penalty of using more mana, of course.
Well, forget mana! Or, not really, but it regenerates! This is a big bonus for stealth players who are hiding behind a couch and want to pull enemies closer and take them down one by one in this fashion without garnering any attention! This bonecharm effect using up more mana is nothing in the grand scheme of things, we got potions!
1 WORST: Risky Parry
The Risky Parry corrupted bonecharm in Dishonored 2 makes it so that when you parry during combat it will always knock an enemy down, but at the expense of taking damage every time you perform such a parry.
This bonecharm is one of the worst because yes, it might be helpful to have knocked down enemies as this lessens the amount of current danger and makes it easier to kill, BUT why take any more damage? If you’re in a battle with multiple enemies, especially when some of them are ranged attackers, injuring yourself seems like… The wrong thing to do. Only slightly, of course.
