Disco Elysium is a brand-spanking-new unique RPG that has taken the world by storm. Though you play a character that is already developed to a degree, his actions and words are all on you. You play a shitty drunk detective trying to solve a murder in a rundown city, what could go wrong?

Being as you’re a dirty drunk, and the city you’re in has waters that run deep itself, there are some unique people you run into along the way and perhaps very few that are so smart. Or perhaps a lot of them are smart and just know how to hide it well. Let’s take a look.

10 Harrier Du Bois

The man himself, the king who makes big-brained moves constantly, is a man of smarts no doubt. Behind all the drugs and alcohol and memory loss and, well you know… Harry is a man who feels and understands what other people are going through.

There is a reason he is a detective, he wasn’t always the shittiest one in his precinct. Harry has a knack for these sorts of things and if you work to help him (or yourself rather, as the player) recover, you might see that shining light through the cracks of the true detective Harrier Du Bois stuck inside a dark cave, waiting to get out.

9 Measurehead

Measurehead is… Well, a knucklehead. He spews a lot of nonsense about race and racial superiority that makes one question his true intelligence and if he isn’t just a numb-nuts.

Though, if you listen to what he has to say or skim through it slightly… You’ll notice he does know quite a lot. In fact, you don’t even understand what he’s saying at all because the vocabulary is beyond you! His views may be a bit questionable but he does have a lot of knowledge in that brain. Or he sure pretends like he does.

8 Lilienne

The fishing village offers a strange, yet calm feeling different than that of the main area around the Whirling Rags which feels as if something is constantly brewing. At the village, all you feel is the fresh winds hitting your face and light chatter of kids and friendly drunks. You feel time, that there is some of it yet left.

Lilienne seems a strong, protecting statue for the village as she stands near her boats with a sword on hip and a confident yet calm air about her. She knows how to take care of herself and her village and doesn’t seem to be afraid of much. This woman clearly has experience in many different things and with experience comes intellect.

7 The Deserter

This old, adept man has been around for a while. A while, while. Hiding out on this island for who knows how long, he may have gone a little mad. Regardless of his current mental capacity, there is still a world of information in that brain that would serve a group of people, if not more, well.

Ignoring what he may or may not have done (insert eyes emoji), the man has a story to tell that might change the way we see things, if not the world then maybe him, or ourselves.

6 Kim Kitsuargi

Our trusty sidekick -  I mean our respectable investigation partner - Kim Kitsuargi was sent down to help us complete our mission and has withstood our hooligan-ish behavior ’til the bitter end. If anyone deserves a medal, it’s Kim for putting up with us! Kim is experienced in the field of finding murders, as we should hope he does, and he clearly has experience dealing with disturbed men who act like teenagers.

He handled the situation better than anyone else could have if they had taken his place and that in itself shows a lot. He never tried to stop Harry, degrade him and take over, report him or anything. Disagreements he may have had, he supported the detective through and through because he knew better.

5 The Gardener

The Gardener is definitely one of the most intelligent characters, being that she tricked the lot of us into thinking she was even a gardener to begin with!

She knows how to keep information to herself and make it seem like she couldn’t know about anything more than whatever it is she has at her hand. A smart companion for political matters, she would be the best special agent spy there is! She thinks before she moves and knows better than to stray from her path.

4 Soona

There is no doubting Soona’s intellectual capability the way she taps away at that ginormous computer-device full of inventions and discoveries to be had!

Soona do be a smart woman doe. She understands more than we could ever about technology let alone other things, like math -shutters-. Trying to uncover secrets in the church, it makes you wonder what other secrets she’s tried to uncover and if she had any luck with them. She knows things!

3 Novelty Dicemaker

This calm and peaceful area where natural light shines through and vines grow up above offers a glimpse of serenity in a chaotic city. The dicemaker sits by her desk day in and day out working on what fulfills her the most in happy solitude.

She clearly has some understanding of how to make the best of the worst, living in a cursed district in an abandoned dark building. We all might have something to learn from her, whether it be about dice and business, or how to live life for you and you alone.

2 Crab-Man

Mister crab-man in the rafters of a decrepit church mumbles stories of a life yet lived… Basically what I’m saying is this man knows things! Completely and utterly dedicated to his faith and his journey, he sits up there in silence like you’ve never not-heard before.

He has eyes on everything that happens within the church and knows everything. How long has he been living in the church? Is he even human? Perhaps he used to be human but has transcended such a mortal form and only lives in a husk of a human… Crawling around in total silence, not being able to hear a thing, must transcend the normal human far away.

1 The Phasmid

The most intelligent of all, my dudes… The Phasmid. There should be no explanation here but I suppose one will do. How could an entirely invisible species of animal that never shows itself to anyone yet is everywhere and nowhere at the same time not be one of the most intellectual creatures to grace this Earth!?

To be chosen by one of these creatures, to let them grace you with their visibility and even have a conversation is next to none. Almost like speaking to God himself. You can feel the ancient knowledge seeping from the phasmid’s brown pores. Do I smell swampy water? No, it must be his intelligence.
