Electronic music duo Disclosure have announced their new album Energy, and a unique musical event that will exist within the world of Minecraft. Yes, Minecraft. The Energy Minecraft Experience will be the largest musical event hosted within the open world game (much to the delight of creepers), built using 100 million blocks and set across 7 climates.
In response to the forced closure of clubs and venues during the pandemic, the British band of brothers wanted to find a unique way to stay connected to their fans. During lockdown, Disclosure have flaunted their showmanship in hosting Kitchen Mix parties at member Guy Lawrence’s house, staying active on Twitch, and even performing from a cliff in Croatia. Now, with the aid of Blockworks and Island Records, the collaborative team have created something very meta to debut their new album, by using the sandbox epic Minecraft to bring people together.
By joining Disclosure’s Minecraft server, fans will be welcomed by scenic views, comprising of lush landscapes and caverns that will link together to form the Energy album cover. Down in the caverns will lie three cave clubs on the surface, that are inspired by various, worldwide venues. If digital clubs and trippy Minecraft artwork wasn’t enough to peak your curiosity, the event will also involve a treasure hunt. Participants will be able to dig for 13 hidden records that include 8-bit covers of the band’s favorite tracks.
Disclosure’s new album addresses environmental issues, such as reforestation and ocean repopulation, which is emulated within the Minecraft event. Throughout its duration, the event’s terrain will shift periodically to represent the album’s diversity and intricacy; “Never static, never simple.” The band’s themes and motivation to evolve has made them an exciting, musical duo to watch. Disclosure’s innovative event will join other musical Minecraft festivals, including the Electric Blockaloo that saw over 300 artists participate back in June.
With over 126 million users, Minecraft has proved its worth in being an effective digital venue and all-round epic hangout for many exciting events. With many people turning to video games during the pandemic, the Energy Minecraft Experience is a perfect example of how events can evolve moving forward into a brave new world.
Launching on August 28, the event will be live for one week. After this week, a version of the Minecraft map will be available for download.
