[UPDATE: The Destiny Instagram account has begun revealing the new and upgraded exotics. Head below to see which ones are joining Year 2.]
When Bungie first revealed the new exotic armor pieces and weapons for Destiny Year 2 they did so with a promise: this is only the beginning. Starting tomorrow, the developer will unveil new exotic items that will be joining the Destiny loot table, both brand new weapons/armor pieces and some that are being upgraded from Year 1.
Much like they did with the first batch of Destiny: The Taken King exotic reveals, Bungie will be taking to Instagram for the announcement. They’ve promised that at least two new exotic items will be added to the fray, along with some Year 1 weapons/armor.
However, it’s important to note that the Year 1 exotics won’t simply see their base attack or defense rating increased; they will also apparently carry new perks. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though, as many of the current Year 1 upgraded exotics have seen similar improvements for The Taken King.
It’s hard to guess which exotic armor pieces and weapons might make the jump, but we’re sure each Destiny player has their favorites. Titans have maligned the lack of double grenades in Crucible and are surely hoping The Armamentarium Year 2 is announced, while Warlocks are simply praying for anything but Sunbreakers. And as far as weapons are concerned, we’re sure Gjallarhorn is at the top of the list and Thorn is at the bottom, for various reasons.
The good news is that if players do happen to own the Year 1 versions of these upgraded exotics, they will be able to purchase them from the Exotic Blueprint kiosk as soon as the pieces go live. They will still retail for the usual 150 Legendary Marks, though.
But of course, gamers will be most curious to see the two new exotic items, which we assume are weapons. Yes, some will be quick to point out there are exotic boots in the Destiny list that have yet to join the loot table, but there are actually three pairs not two. Also, it would seem rather cruel for Bungie to add two pairs of exotic boots to the loot table and leave one Destiny class out in the cold. That is, unless one of the Year 1 boots is making the jump (Bones of Eao anyone?!) and the other two boots are new.
Luckily, we won’t have too wait long for answers to these questions, and to see how Destiny’s exotic pool will change in the next phase of Year 2. After collecting every exotic under the sun, these new additions may finally give players an excuse to farm Three of Coin drops again.
